The Manoa Fire Company is one of the five volunteer fire companies that protects and serves approximately 50,000 residents in the 9.5 square mile area of Haverford Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. We not only provide fire protection for the Township, but also provide Basic Life Support (BLS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the Township, splitting the EMS services with Llanerch Fire Company. The officer's and member's of the Manoa Fire Company would like to congratulate Assistant Chief Mike Norman and his new  fiancé Kristin Bono on their engagement. Mike popped the question on Sunday evening. An October 2009 wedding date is being planned. Congrats to both of you and we wish you all the best in the future.


 
 
BUSY MORNING FOR COMPANY 56

The morning started with a smoke in the building call to Qudrangle just after 3am. Companies 38, 56, and 35 were on the assignment. After about 45 minutes on scene, it was determined that an electrical problem had caused the smoke condition. Units cleared just after 4am. Just about an hour or so later,  Company 56, Rescue 38, 56-7 and Medic 108 were dispatched for an accident with entrpament on the 1800 block of Lawrence Road. Engine 56-3 arrived on location with a bread truck into a tree with the driver pinned. Crews from Engine 56-3, Rescue 56, and Engine 38-2 went into service stabilizing the truck, displacing the dash, and removing  the driver's side door. Victim was extricated in 18 minutes and transported by 56-7 and Medic 108 to HUP. Manoa Fire Company Crew Association is conducting its Sixth Annual Holiday Fundraiser to benefit the Crew Association. We have added a few new items to choose from this year. The Crew Association is a group of men and women volunteers of the Manoa Fire Company that protect and serve your community on a daily basis.Our Fundraiser has been a complete success thanks to your support. CHIEF ELECTION

Last night from 8pm-10pm voting took place for Chief of Manoa Fire Company. Michael C. Norman won the election and will continue on as Chief for another 2 year term. Mike has served as Chief of Manoa Fire Company since 1998. Thanks Mike for your continued dedication as Chief.

CARBON MONOXIDE AT MANOA SUPER FRESH

At 12:30 hrs on Friday, August 29, 2008, 56-7 and Medic 108 were dispatched to the Super Fresh  in Manoa Shopping Center for a subject down.  After entering the building, carbon monoxide detectors sounded  on 56-7's and 108's equipment after detecting CO. The store was evacuated and the assignment was upgraded, bringing Company 56, Tower 34, Mass Casualty 34-8,and Company 58. The county ambulance box was struck, due to the large amount of people effected by the CO. Over 100 patients were evaluated and thirty were transported to various hospitals for further evaluation.
 


 
   
   
 
BRICK PURCHASE FOR DELCO FIREFIGHTER AND EMS MEMORIAL

ENGINE 56 ASSISTS CONSHOHOCKEN

Around 10 am a phone call was made from the Montgomery County Fireboard requesting one Engine from Station 56 to respond at 12 noon to the Fire Scene on Washington Ave in Conshohocken Boro Montgomery County,PA. This was the scene of an 8 alarm fire the night before. Engine 56-2 with a crew of 7 members made the trip up the Blue Route to assist our fellow firefighters in Montco. Upon arrival of the Engine, the crew was sent to the command post to sign in, receive hot zone wristbands, assigned a Montco portable radio, and receive our orders from the Operations Division. The Engine Crew was part of a Task Force with engines from Lima and Union also the Tower Ladder from Upper Gwynned

 
   
   
 
ENGINE 56-3 COVERS RADNOR

At about 18:00 hours Engine 56-3, Ladder 41 (Newtown Square), and Engine 37 (Modena - Chester County) were dispatched to cover Company 15 (Radnor) while they operated at an 8 alarm structure fire in Conshohocken. Company 15 returned close to midnight. Cover up crews helped 15 restore all of their apparatus. Engine 56-3 cleared and returned to Havertown just after midnight.

The officers and members of Manoa Fire Company would like to congratulate Joe McCarthy Jr. for being a recepient for the second year in a row of one of the Main Line Chamber Foundation's 2008 Volunteer Firefighter/EMT scholarships. Fourteen volunteer fire companies serving the Main Line are represented by the 23 firefighter scholarship recipients. The cumulative volunteer service provided by these young firefighters is more than 80 years. Most of them are working, going to school, and committed to serving as a volunteer firefighter with their local fire company. Over 70% of the award recipients have a family member who is also a firefighter. Congratulations Joe!

 
   
   
 
COUNTY RADIO DESIGNATIONS

Effective at 12:00 hours on May 28, 2008 Haverford Township radio designations will no longer be used. We will now use our county radio designations when responding to calls going forward. The transition to fireboard will be ongoing for the next few months. Haverford Townsnhip dispatchers will continue to dispatch until the transition is final. For all of the Manoa members that are not familiar with the county designations, you can find the new designations below. Their is also a sheet in all of the apparatus and teletype room to reference.

MANOA FIRE COMPANY REGRETS TO ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF LIFE MEMBER LOU LATTANZIO SR.

Manoa Fire Company regrets to announce the death of Life Member and Board of Director Lou Lattanzio Sr. Lou served on the Board of Director's for 23 years. Lou was also a long time member of the Hilltop Baseball Board of Directors, Softball Coach, Baseball Coach and Volunteer. Services will be held Sunday Evening May 18, 2008 - Visitation 7:00PM - 9:00PM, and Monday Morning May 19, 2008 - Visitation 8:00AM - 10:00AM at Logan Funeral Home, 57 South Eagle Road Havertown, PA 19083. Mass of Christian Burial At 10AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Chruch - North Manoa Road and Wilson Avenue - Havertown, PA 19083.

 
   
 
ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT

Around 10am Company 58, Rescue 56, Rescue 38, Medic 108, and 56-7 were dispatched to Glendale Road and Burmont Road for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. FM-1 confirmed the entrapment and had the Rescue Companies expedite due to heavy entrapment. On arrival the crews of Rescue 56 of Squad 38 went to work on the vehicle, after stabilizing it. After removing the roof, both doors and the 'B' post on the drivers side, the patient was removed and transported by 56-7 to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment.
